GSM - Let Nigerians have an idea of what is going on here.

Any project embarked by our government in Federal, State, Local Government and parastatals needs to be watched seriously and scrutinized by every Nigerian, We should not rely on their papers and official statements, because every Nigerian government in power has taken its citizen for a ride for a long time now and from evidence it seems nothing has changed.

Are we going to hear stories about telephone system in five to ten years from now? - That is the million dollar question. In this new dispensation we have to be very careful and watchful on the projects they are now promising and giving out contracts for.

It is morning time again for corruption in Nigeria. Watch out brothers and sisters on their big and white elephant projects, and contracts giving has taken a new dimension and will all these contracts be executed satisfactorily. That's another question?

There are different kinds of digital technology in use today and there are: CDMA, TDMA, IDEN, and GSM. (CDMA)Code Division Multiple Access, (TDMA) Time Division Multiple Access, (IDEN) Integrated Digital Enhances Network and (GSM) Global System for Mobile communication. Then you have VSAT which is a stand alone communication device.

Sprint and Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T uses TDMA, Nextel uses IDEN and voice stream uses GSM. GSM is popular in Europe and is one of the oldest digital technology but it is not the best as of today.

As for VSAT, it is a stand alone network system with ten, twenty or more sites within the network for different communication operation in the network like, Telephone, Video conferencing, Cash register Sales, Internet connection, telemedicine, software delivery, point of sale data gathering, prescription verification, automatic teller machine, fax system, hotel reservation, credit card verification, distance learning, bank transaction,  voice and data services ETC. It comes with a complete package on any thing communication.

Why not get something that we can be using now based on our economy and upgrade as years go by and as the economy grows. These companies will like to recoup their invested money and they will also want to make profit. There is no doubt that this thing will cost money and hardship on poor Nigerians.

Look at it this way - It is like a single man buying a bus with capacity for twenty that cost Say twenty thousand dollars, because he thinks that when he marry he will have twenty children within twenty years, instead of him buying a two seater car that cost say ten thousand dollars now and then he can always upgrade to a bus when he gets the children. That's how I see it.

Another point why did giants in Telecommunication worldwide like sprint, Verizon, MCI, British Telecom etc did not participate in this bidding with a huge market potential; because it was hijacked by the generals and their money, rather companies from Egypt, South Africa and the middle east where the players - I am not questioning their ability.
