The Prince, the Parrot and the Kingmakers by Soboyejo A. Awosika-Coker, U.S.A.
It has actually been quite refreshing to take sometime off...sit back (hardly if you know me) and watch events and individuals continue to unfold in the volatile and contentious political theatre...we have all come to know as Nigeria. From the Vice-President Abubakar "Omowale" Atiku (after all he is detribalized...right? So he shouldn't mind me giving him the internationally acclaimed name for trans-ethnic Africans), to the "singing parrot", Hamza Al-Mustapha, and need I not forget our "good friends", the true guardians of cockeyed democracy, the Brew-Ha-Ha or shall I say, Arewa Consultative Forum. Please note that true to form, this is not an attempt on my part to denigrate or insult any individual or group of individuals. On the contrary, I am merely stating the facts as they obtain. I must however assure you that this literary journey I am about to embark upon is definitely not one for the squeamish...so please join me for the ride. Vice-President Abubakar "Omowale" Atiku: It would be amusing, were it not utterly absurd for any one in their right senses to imagine a situation where the supposed Vice-President, who's duty it is to show undivided loyalty to the aspirations and ideals of the current administration, to actually be the person whom all along had been secretly working against the interest of the present administration...and consequently the nation. Abubakar Atiku, barely a year into the current administration has suddenly decided to place his personal ambition and interest above that of the nation. Abubakar Atiku, it was, that claimed (rather ignorantly) the opponents of Sharia were wrong to decry the core Northern States' desire to adopt the Islamic Law or Sharia as State Religion, even though the constitution which he, Abubakar and those same Northern Governors swore to uphold, states clearly that: "The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion." How clear can this be? Has Abubakar Atiku ever read the constitution he swore to uphold? Abubakar Atiku, it was, that claimed (rather arrogantly) he was behind the formation of the so-called Arewa Consultative Forum, the forum of perennial and pernicious detractors that see nothing good in any efforts by the current administration to right the wrongs of the past. The forum that has now openly declared war on the Southerners (the Yorubas in particular)...a war I can assure you they might start, but will never finish! How can Abubakar Atiku claim to be an officer of an administration that was duly elected by the people and then proceed to work against that same administration by lying with "dogs and fleas" who are hell-bent on depriving Nigeria, and Nigerians, the true benefits commensurate with a strong and virile democratic system of government. Just about two years ago, if at all, there was every reason to doubt that this entity called Nigeria would continue to exist. The nation was very much on the threshold of another civil war. Contrary to what the so-called Northern elite may think, they did not hand over power; God in his infinite mercy took power from them for the sake of Nigeria, as the Yoruba were more than determined to secede from the Federation...by any means necessary! So enough of the "power shift" cockamamie! The Hausa-Fulani should know that they do not have the will or the political and intellectual sophistication to go against a resolute Yoruba agenda. As a writer on this particular website alluded to, perhaps the core North is suffering from selective amnesia in terms of who the real "war heroes" were, of the Nigerian civil war. The same Abubakar Atiku that had been a proponent of inter-racial marriages as a way of making the nation more homogenous (I wonder why) now sees himself as a discredited figure of division and perverse deception. Who, if I may ask did Atiku think he was insulting with that "trans-ethnic" proposition by the way? In my opinion, he was insulting the collective intelligence of Yoruba people by advocating inter-racial marriages, simply because he is married to a Yoruba woman and he would like the votes of the Yoruba, in his bid for the Presidency...right! First of all, does Atiku think that a true Yoruba woman from a viable background would marry his kind? What, with his support of a barbaric law disguised in the name of religion, whose sole purpose is the continued degradation and subjugation of women and the under-privileged masses in the North. Well, one can see the reason for his misguided confidence with regard to his political aspirations. After all, some third-rate Yoruba "Obas" are already quick to confer traditional titles on him and his so-called Yoruba wife. Obviously, Atiku and his kind are of the opinion that they will always find individuals amongst the Yoruba willing to sell their conscience for a buck. They may be right, but ultimately, those stooges and sycophants will disappear with Atiku and his kind, into the abyss...when the dust finally settles! ........To be continued |
